The India Group (TIG)

Mission
Following St. Francis Xavier, who proselytized and is buried in India, we hope to work with the poorest of the poor in India, providing direct, supervised support in the areas of education and health care.

Who We Are
TIG is a group founded by SFX parishioners who traveled in India and worked with Indian families in 3 communities to identify their most crucial educational and health care needs.

What We Are Doing
Currently we are paying school tuition for 11 children, 7 girls and 4 boys, to attend pre-school, elementary or middle school (c. $350 a year per child).  Most of these children are the first in their families to attend school, and in some cases, to read or count.  We also secure funds to provide long-term and emergency health care.  For example, we provide anti-seizure medicine (c. $150 a year) for a father who has been diagnosed with epilepsy.  One of the children was diagnosed with what the doctors’ think was encephalitis.  TIG secured enough money to help pay a portion (c. $1500) of the hospital bill, and the child, somewhat to the doctors’ surprise, survived.  We have also paid for surgeries, pre-natal care, and health care related to women’s issues and alcoholism.

Happy Birthdays!

Baba called and he asked me to let the people who help know that today, October 10, is his baby's, Haman's, birthday.  He wants us to pray for him and the family today.  It is the 9-day celebration in honor of the god Kali, and Baba is sacrificing a goat.  He will pray not only for his family, he said, but also for us.  I thought all the children were born on October 25.  I'm sure I was told this at some point, but he said today is Haman's birthday and Milli and Krishna share the October 25 birthday.

Please donate today. Thank you!
