Mission
Following St. Francis Xavier, who
proselytized and is buried in India, we hope to work with the poorest of the
poor in India, providing direct, supervised support in the areas of education
and health care.
Who
We Are
TIG is a group founded by SFX
parishioners who traveled in India and worked with Indian families in 3
communities to identify their most crucial educational and health care needs.
What
We Are Doing
Currently we are paying school
tuition for 11 children, 7 girls and 4 boys, to attend pre-school, elementary
or middle school (c. $350 a year per child).
Most of these children are the first in their families to attend school,
and in some cases, to read or count. We
also secure funds to provide long-term and emergency health care. For example, we provide anti-seizure medicine
(c. $150 a year) for a father who has been diagnosed with epilepsy. One of the children was diagnosed with what
the doctors’ think was encephalitis. TIG
secured enough money to help pay a portion (c. $1500) of the hospital bill, and
the child, somewhat to the doctors’ surprise, survived. We have also paid for surgeries, pre-natal
care, and health care related to women’s issues and alcoholism.
